The Province House: Room for meeting - celebration - arts and debate
The State House is no ivory tower, but an open house where everyone was always welcome for a visit to the extensive art collection. Some artworks were commissioned by the provincial government house, and designed specifically for the province, others came from donations and every year the collection expanded through targeted acquisitions.
With the provincial art collection, the board of the provincial government wants to embellish the building in an appropriate and responsible manner. It is not a museum collection. Yet this collection transcends the purely decorative, because it is an illustrative overview of the Antwerp art scene from about 1850 until now. |
We are proud to announce that the NELOS Photo & Video Festival 2010 will take place in the Province House in Antwerp.
Metropolis Antwerp is the economic heart of Flanders, the port, the mighty river “Schelde”, the numerous international companies, cultural crossroad between Flanders and the Netherlands.
In the provincial government, you will be surrounded by art, mostly created by artists who are closely linked to the province of Antwerp. The buildings are situated in an attractive green area. Around the Province House there is a tight landscaped garden with a fountain of steel by Pol Bury. |
