Parnerschip: Nelos Filmfestival with the FMISM Foundation

(version française ICI)

The NELOS Photo and Film Festival has started a partnership with the Foundation “Festival Mondial de l’Image Sous Marine”. This will ensure that the winning works of the festival will be archived and saved for the future. Consulting those works will only be possible with written consent of the author. www.fondation-fmism.org
For this occasion the Foundation offers the magnificent book “Planère Mer” to the winner of the category Masters Photo Color of the NELOS Photo and Film Festival.

History and mission of the Foundation

The main purpose of the Foundation, which was established in 2002, is to archive all winning works of the 36 editions of the “Festival Mondial de l’Image Sous Marine”, which have been organised so far, as well as archiving certain works at the request of their authors.
This cultural heritage is extremely vast and includes about 2500 photo’s and slide presentations and 700 films.
More than 75% of these are available for reference and give an overview of the evolution of the under water world during the past five decades.
Those films are testimonies from all seas and depths of this world.
Also painters contribute to the cultural heritage of the oceans.
Literary works, comics, novels and travel guides can all be found in the archives of the Foundation, as well as music that has been used to illustrate the works and which has been composed by authors who have been inspired by the under water world.
There are also architectural projects by professionals and starters.
Furthermore the Foundation has access to more than 1000 drawings made by children from all over the world, which demonstrate the creativity of those young ones. All posters for the Festival have been chosen from the drawings in a contest which is being held yearly.
The Foundation also has the vocation to honour and appraise those who have contributed to the development of under water images. This cultural heritage is an important part of the memory of our oceans. It is important to make it available to all.
The 21 administrators of the Foundation all aim to fulfil this goal.
Recently the Foundation created a new category: “Collection”. This is divided in two subcategories: one for posters and drawings on the under water world and one for camera’s and material which allows to make images. This collection should grow and expand slowly.
The archives of the Foundation are presently available through seven cultural centres, of which four are based in France. Three new sites in France will be opening shortly and six others are under negotiation. Do not hesitate to consult our archives.
